We are a network of families, professionals, self-advocates, and friends who all share in the joys and challenges of a loved one with Down syndrome. We know firsthand what you are experiencing, and we are here for you if you have any questions. There is no need to walk your path alone… sometimes the road we travel is bumpy, but you can enjoy the ride!

What is Down Syndrome

Down syndrome , or trisomy 21, is a genetic condition caused by the presence of all or part of an extra 21st chromosome. The incidence of Down syndrome is estimated at 1 per 733 births, making it the most commonly occurring chromosomal condition. There are more than 400,000 people living with Down syndrome in the United States.

The FCDSN is proud to be able to sponsor four social groups for our members – Birth to 5 years of age, Preteens (6-12 yrs), Teens (13-20 yrs), and Adults (21 yrs+). Events typically occur on a monthly basis. For more information about our social groups or to see what’s going on, check out our Events page.

Hi, I’m Rory.

I’m two-and-a-half years old and I love to play on my swing set and to go swimming. I like to wrestle with my big brother Owen, too. He says he lets me win, but I think he’s fibbing. My favorite movie is Monsters, Inc., especially Mike. His big eyeball makes me laugh. This year I’m going to Oklahoma because my cousin Shaun asked me to be a ring bearer in his wedding.


Hi, my name is Sophia.

I’m 7 years old and my mommy says that I’m a rock star because I like to sing and dance so much. I also like to be outside, especially during the summer when I can go camping and swimming and play baseball in the Pittsford Little League. When it’s raining I like to stay inside with my friends and paint and draw and watch Disney princess movies.


Hi, my name is Landon.

I’m 5 years old and I love to listen to music and dance. I also like to go swimming and play outside. Every week I go to Herman’s Farm Market with my daddy. I like going there because I know everyone and they give me cookies. When I was 3 my parents took me to Disney World so I could meet Mickey Mouse. That was the best trip ever.
